Derek!
I am kind of a little glad to see I am not the only one getting behind on posting. We have been so busy and frankly I am a bit exhausted, and so we have been falling behind what we would like to have in terms of updates. I love the pictures, especially of the storm drain! Rainy season sounds wild. I'm looking forward to swapping stories over some food when we both make it back to Utah. When are you flying back?

Well the problem was, after consulting both Korean friends and people that had visited Korea (namely returned missionaries), my impression was that opening an account would be easy. I could then transfer in a lump sum with a single fee and use that. Unfortunately, it turned out they needed a lot more documentation than anyone had said...

Anyway, I definitely will keep it in mind for the future.

Derek!

Affordable public transit is one thing I really enjoy about Russia as well. It is far less expensive than owning and driving a car, and with few exceptions, more convenient.

As for the money exchange costs, that is a constant problem. This time I decided to get travelers checks (American Express) and bring most of my money with me in that form and then a business debit card for backup. In Russia, it costs about 10% on top of any exchange rate and ATM fee to pull money out, which would have gotten real expensive real fast for a three month trip. It is a little but worrisome to have all the money on you though. The nice thing about traveler's checks is that if they are stolen, you can have them replaced, but I still keep them very much hidden in secret places. Just a thought for the future.

Cheers!

Not yet, I won't be back until the end of August, i.e., the start of fall semester. How is the Russia documentary going? (And a belated happy birthday to you as well!)

Hey Derek! Are you back in the states yet? I can't remember what your timeline was. I know what you mean about school exchange programs being pricey. UVU's study abroad I looked into was only a month long and would have cost at least double the 3 month trip I am on. Also, glad to hear from your most recent post that things were/are going better. Sorry your professor was a dick.

Anyhow, take care. We will have to go out for a collective birthday dinner or lunch when we are both back in Utah. And just in case I don't have internet available in a few days, Happy Birthday.

Derek! I'm glad you made it through TSA.

I tried calling you today. Wanted to see about getting some food before you left on your trip but I didn't realize you were leaving today! Sorry that was my fault. I've been busy finishing up my classes and studying for finals. Anyhow, fly safe. I'm excited for your trip.

Ps can you send me an email with your email address so that, if they arise, I can send you questions about web stuff?
